Message from Honorary Consul

Jordan is one of the most interesting, most attractive, most progressive and most welcoming countries in the Middle East. It is a great honour and indeed a great pleasure to represent Jordan here in Ireland in the capacity of Honorary Consul.

There is a long history of very positive and friendly relations between Ireland and Jordan, and in this role I strive to build on these foundations to strengthen still further our close ties.

This close relationship occurs in many spheres ranging from economic and political to cultural, religious, educational and humanitarian. There is great scope for further development in all of these areas and I am here to assist in whatever way I can to make this happen.

For example there is a notable growth in the number of Irish tourists who now visit Jordan to explore its amazing sites of historic, cultural and geographic interest, as well as to enjoy the sunshine and many recreational pursuits. And more Irish tour operators are now including Jordan in their offerings to the region.

Likewise, there are growing links in the commercial arena, with Irish companies establishing regional offices in Jordan and Irish investors participating in the country’s industrial and economic development.

There are new linkages established between Irish and Jordanian third level colleges to promote various educational projects, as well as collaboration in the fields of health-care, economic and industrial development, and various humanitarian projects.

Working closely with the Jordanian embassy in London, and with the relevant institutions in Jordan, I endeavour to support and encourage all of these activities in whatever way I can.

Yours Sincerely,

Joe Geoghegan
Honorary Consul
